Nationwide Mock Drill Conducted Across India

In a coordinated effort to enhance disaster preparedness and response mechanisms, a nationwide mock drill was conducted today across multiple states and Union Territories of India. The exercise was organized under the supervision of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)

in collaboration with state authorities to evaluate readiness and public awareness.

The drill simulated different disaster scenarios including earthquakes, industrial accidents, fires, and floods based on local vulnerabilities. Emergency sirens triggered evacuation in schools, hospitals, and offices to test reaction time and coordination.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need for these drills, stating:
“Preparedness is the key to minimizing loss of life and property during disasters.” The initiative was aimed at identifying response gaps and strengthening inter-agency coordination.

In metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, joint teams from local authorities and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)
conducted live rescue demonstrations, medical response setups, and community training sessions.

Initial feedback from NDMA highlighted the success of the drill, with minor communication delays noted in a few regions. Authorities plan to make these mock drills a biannual exercise, integrating them into school curriculums and local governance protocols to improve disaster resilience.
